22.THE ROOM OF THE SEVEN SACRAMENTS

Here are the paintings of "The Seven Sacraments" - produced by the French painter P. C. Tremolières (1703-1739) - which are a copy of those currently kept in Dresden (Cardinal Ottoboni commissioned Giuseppe Maria Crespi in 1712 to produce these copies). In 1733 Cardinal Albani commissioned Tremolières to produce some copies of the Ottoboni collection, among which the series of "The Seven Sacraments". Noteworthy are the two still natures of Michele Antonio Rapous (Turin, circa 1800) and the altar-piece of Guglielmo Caccia, called Moncalvo, depicting the "Madonna with the Child, Saint Mary Magdalene, Saint Francis and the two donors" (Piedmont, 1608-1610). To finish with, the room hosts a secretaire with abattant made by Giovan Battista Galletti, Piedmontese cabinet-maker who succeeded Pietro Piffetti at the Savoy Court from 1777 to 1818. This piece of furniture is covered with precious wood in marqueterie, with valuable frames in carved and gilded wood (Turin, 1783).
